India is considered to be the oldest living civilisation by many historians.Traditions in Hinduism were considered mainly as superstitions, but with the advent of science, it is becoming evident that these traditions are based on some scientific knowledge and moved from generations to generations as traditions.

Ganga worship and bathing

A large number of individuals take bath in the River Ganges, amid Kumbh Mela, Magh Mela and on different promising days. But chances of having Cholera or other waterborne infections are severe.

The water of the Ganga is extremely pure and sanctifying. No germs can flourish in this. The most persuading solution for Ganga’s decontaminating property or to eliminate pathogens is connected with the bacteriophage which is present in the water. This has been tested by various scientists in the laboratory. Rich in minerals this water cures almost all kinds of diseases.

The Ganga is saturated with antiseptic minerals. Even in the West, doctors prescribe Ganga water for rubbing in the treatment of diseases of the skin. Ganga is not merely a river. It is a sacred Tirtha. It is possessed of mysterious powers which are not found in any other river of the world. Even scientists have admitted the efficacy of the Ganga water.

Dr. F.C. Harrison of McGill University, Canada writes: “A peculiar fact which has never been satisfactorily explained is the quick death, in three or five hours, of the cholera vibrio in the waters of the Ganga. When one remembers sewage by numerous corpses of natives, often cholera casualties, and by the bathing of thousands of natives, it seems remarkable that the belief of the Hindus, that the water of this river is pure and cannot be defiled and that they can safely drink it and bathe in it, should be confirmed by means of modern bacteriological research”.

A well-known French physician, Dr. D. Herelle, made similar investigations into the mystery of the Ganga. He observed some of the floating corpses of men dead of dysentery and cholera, and was surprised to find “that only a few feet below the bodies where one would expect to find millions of these dysentery and cholera germs, there were no germs at all”. He then grew germs from patients having the disease, and to these cultures added water from the Ganga. When he incubated the mixture for a period, much to his surprise, the germs were completely destroyed.

Greetings with both palm touched

Scientifically speaking, joining both hands ensures joining the tips of all the fingers together; which are denoted to the pressure points of eyes, ears, and mind. Pressing them together is said to activate the pressure points which helps us remember that person for a long time.

Mehendi

Besides lending color to the hands, mehndi is a very powerful medicinal herb. Weddings are stressful, and often, the stress causes headaches and fevers. As the wedding day approaches, the excitement mixed with nervous anticipation can take its toll on the bride and groom. Application of mehndi can prevent too much stress because it cools the body and keeps the nerves from becoming tense. This is the reason why mehndi is applied on the hands and feet, which house nerve endings in the body.

Piercing ear

Piercing the ears has a great importance in Indian ethos. Indian physicians and philosophers believe that piercing the ears helps in the development of intellect, power of thinking and decision making faculties. Talkativeness fritters away life energy. Ear piercing helps in speech-restraint. It helps to reduce impertinent behavior and the ear-channels become free from disorders. This idea appeals to the Western world as well, and so they are getting their ears pierced to wear fancy earrings as a mark of fashion.

Fasting

The underlying principle behind fasting is to be found in Ayurveda. This ancient Indian medical system sees the basic cause of many diseases as the accumulation of toxic materials in the digestive system. Fasting promotes blood Sugar Control by Reducing Insulin Resistance ,Promotes Better Health by Fighting Inflammation ,May Enhance Heart Health by Improving Blood Pressure, Triglycerides and Cholesterol Levels, May Boost Brain Function and Prevent Neurodegenerative Disorders , Aids Weight Loss by Limiting Calorie Intake and Boosting Metabolism, May Aid in Cancer Prevention, Could Delay Aging and Extend Longevity , Increases Growth Hormone Secretion, Which Is Vital for Growth, Metabolism, Weight Loss and Muscle Strength. By fasting, the digestive organs get rest and all body mechanisms are cleansed and corrected.

Worshipping Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum)

Apart from its religious significance it is of great medicinal significance, and is a prime herb in Ayurvedic treatment. Marked by its strong aroma and a stringent taste, tusli is a kind of "the elixir of life" as it promotes longevity. The plant's extracts can be used to prevent and cure many illnesses and common ailments like common cold, headaches, stomach disorders, inflammation, heart disease, various forms of poisoning and malaria. Essential oil extracted from karpoora tulsi is mostly used for medicinal purposes though of late it is used in the manufacture of herbal toiletry.
when Hindu women worship tulsi, they in effect pray for "less and less carbonic acid and more and more oxygen - a perfect object lesson in sanitation, art and religion". The tulsi plant is even known to purify or de-pollute the atmosphere and also works as a repellent to mosquitoes, flies and other harmful insects. Tulsi used to be a universal remedy in cases of malarial fever.

Almost all the ayurvedic cough syrups contain tulsi as an important ingredient, as it helps in lessening bronchitis.Tulsi reduces blood glucose levels and so is an effective herb for diabetes. Radiation poisoning as well as cataract can also be cured to certain extent by having tulsi extract. Tulsi acts as a stress reliever by balancing various body processes. It promotes longevity.Tulsi leaves are beneficial for nervous system and help in enhancing memory.Tulsi helps in strengthening kidney. Drink juice of tulsi leaves mixed in honey for six months in case of renal stones. This will expel these stones through urinary tract.Mouth ulcers and infections can be cured with tulsi.Tulsi is also very beneficial against insect bites or stings. Drinking juice of tulsi leaves after every few hours in case of bite is very beneficial. You can also apply tulsi paste to the affected parts.

Worshipping Peepal (Ficus Religiosa)

Peepal unlike other trees , releases Oxygen even during the night due to a special photosynthesis process called Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM).Peepal tree is said to be a great source of Oxygen along with Neem and Tulsi. It purifies the surroundings where it is planted and kills harmful bacteria. Worshipping the tree means being in the vicinity and thus breathing in health and breathing out impurities. The leaf, bark and roots of this tree are of utmost importance according to Ayurvedic Sciences.

The leaves cure Asthma and the milk derived out of the leaves helps relieve eye pain. This tree can cure as much as 50 disorders, including diarrhoea, epilepsy and gastric troubles.

Sindoor/vermilion

Sindoor is prepared by mixing turmeric-lime and the metal mercury. Due to its intrinsic properties, mercury, besides controlling blood pressure also activates sexual drive. This also explains why Sindoor is prohibited for the widows. For best results, Sindoor should be applied right upto the pituitary gland where all our feelings are centered it serves as a longevity prayer for the husband, but on the other it keeps a tab on the woman's physical well-being.

Bangles

Bangles are one of the most essential ornaments of an Indian bride. And apart from enhancing the beauty of a bride, they offer an amazing health benefit as well. As the bangles are worn on the wrists, there are a number of acupressure points, which when pressed by them, help you to stay healthy. The friction between the bangles and your skin also improves blood circulation. No wonder bangles are considered auspicious for married women!

Wearing toe rings

For Hindu brides in various cultures, it is mandatory to wear rings on their second toe. But, this tradition also has two amazing scientific reasons behind it. Firstly, there is a particular nerve in the second toe, which connects to the heart while passing through the uterus. The toe ring makes the uterus stronger and regulates the menstrual cycle. As Silver is a good conductor, it also absorbs polar energies from the earth and passes it to the body.

Tilak/kumkum/bindi in forehead

On the forehead, between the two eyebrows, is a spot that is considered as a major nerve point in human body.We know that the human body emits energy in the form of electromagnetic waves and especially the forehead and the subtle spot between the eyebrows. The imbalance in the body causes the energy to destabilize and causes worries and tension and hence headaches. The Tilak cools the forehead, protects us and prevents the loss of energy. Sometimes the entire forehead is covered with sandal wood or the holy ash.

Moreover it acts as an acupressure point GV 24.5 (in acupressure terms) which is also a immune booster and potent point and when one regular applies on this mark his immunity level never comes down easily.

Significant of temple

Temples are located strategically at a place where the positive energy is abundantly available from the magnetic and electric wave distributions of north/south pole thrust. The main idol is placed in the core center of the temple, known as “*Garbhagriha*” or *Moolasthanam*. In fact, the temple structure is built after the idol has been placed. This *Moolasthanam* is where earth’s magnetic waves are found to be maximum. We know that there are some copper plates, inscribed with Vedic scripts, buried beneath the Main Idol. What are they really? No, they are not God’s / priests’ flash cards when they forget the *shlokas*. The copper plate absorbs earth’s magnetic waves and radiates it to the surroundings. Thus a person regularly visiting a temple and walking clockwise around the Main Idol receives the beamed magnetic waves and his body absorbs it. This is a very slow process and a regular visit will let him absorb more of this positive energy. Scientifically, it is the positive energy that we all require to have a healthy life.

Indian tradition shows proper ways to live a life, it teach us the art of living in a scientific manner. Just because we don’t know the story behind them, doesn’t mean that the traditions are vague. The tradition are not old fashioned instead it's something so advanced that we can't notice now
